This document defines examples of system instructions that may be used to guide medical AI with the goal of safe, ethical, and professional responses in all medical contexts.
The texts provided below may be used as the system prompt template when training and using the fine-tuned model.
What is a system_prompt?¶
System prompts are hidden instructions that tell the AI how to behave. Users don't see this text, but it controls the AI's tone, format, and safety guidelines. It can also set boundaries on what the AI can and cannot do. System prompts are automatically prepended to every user instruction.

- Severe burns covering large area
- Eye injuries with vision loss

What is a chat_template?¶
A chat template is a Jinja2 template that formats conversations between users and AI models. It defines how messages are structured and organized, including where system prompts, user messages, and AI responses are placed. Chat templates control what context the model receives.
Chat templates use Jinja2 syntax with special tokens to:
- Separate different types of messages (system, user, assistant)
- Add special formatting tokens the model expects
- Control conversation flow and structure
- if-then-else branches
